About Carissa Ballew, RN, MSN, MPH, CCRN
Founder | Legal Nurse Consultant | Expert Witness | Critical Care Nurse
Carissa Ballew is a critical care registered nurse with a background in ICU nursing, rapid response, public health, and clinical program evaluation.
Her bedside experience includes caring for high-acuity patients in a mixed intensive care setting, where clinical judgment, timely escalation, interdisciplinary communication, and accurate documentation are essential.
As an ICU nurse, Carissa has cared for patients with complex medical, surgical, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and sepsis-related conditions. Her rapid response and critical care experience give her a strong understanding of patient deterioration, escalation of care, provider notification, nursing documentation, and the real-world decision-making that occurs at the bedside.
In addition to her critical care background, Carissa holds graduate degrees in nursing and public health. Her prior work in maternal health, community health, doula program development, and healthcare program evaluation gives her a broader understanding of healthcare systems, patient advocacy, vulnerable populations, and the ways system-level factors can affect care delivery.
Carissa brings a practical, clinically grounded perspective to medical-legal review, helping attorneys understand the medical record, identify meaningful clinical issues, and evaluate nursing-related questions with clarity.

Christopher Edginton, RN, BSN
Co-Founder | Legal Nurse Consultant
Christopher Edginton is a registered nurse with fifteen years of clinical experience across multiple hospital settings and patient care specialties. His background includes float pool nursing, telemetry, medical-surgical nursing, step-down care, ICU, pediatrics, emergency department experience, and relief charge nurse responsibilities.
His work across varied units has given him a broad understanding of how patient care is documented, handed off, escalated, and managed across the hospital system. This perspective is especially valuable in medical-legal review, where timelines, communication, clinical changes, and documentation gaps often matter as much as individual events.
Chris assists with medical record review, chronology development, documentation analysis, and case screening. His experience across specialties allows him to identify clinical patterns, care progression, and potential issues that may not be obvious when records are reviewed in isolation.
Robin Ballew, RN, BSN, CCRN
Senior Legal Nurse Consultant | Critical Care and PACU
Robin Ballew is a registered nurse with thirty years of clinical experience, including more than twenty years in critical care. Her background includes caring for complex, high-acuity patients, cardiac surgery recovery, and post-anesthesia care.
She currently works in PACU and serves as a charge nurse, bringing leadership experience and a strong understanding of patient flow, recovery standards, escalation of care, and interdisciplinary communication. Throughout her career, she has also precepted hundreds of nurses, helping develop clinical judgment, documentation habits, and safe nursing practice at the bedside.
Her depth of experience is especially valuable in medical-legal review involving critical care, postoperative recovery, cardiac patients, nursing standards, documentation, and changes in patient condition. She assists with medical record review, chronology development, and clinical analysis for complex nursing and hospital-based cases.
